On Saturday the 11th of July 2009 the Greens of Beyoglu, Istanbul have protested against the contructionplans of a 3th bridge over the Bosphorus. This bridge will as such not be a solution to the transport problems that the city of Istanbul is facing. It will only be a further attack on the nature surrounding the city and emphasize that cars and the industry behind it are the real rulers of the transportation issue in Istanbul and Turkey as such.
It is ridiculous that one can choose for one more bridge that will have a very high price for the environment but also for the taxpayers. This whilst one can most probably improve the current transportation issues that Istanbul is facing by a minimal input reaching out for a maximal output. A real public transportation network that brings Istanbul together would be a real solution instead of giving preference to individual transport by car.
But then again; when has Istanbuls or Turkeys government done anything that hasn’t been inflicted in a complete neo-liberal thinking?
